Google recently released the Top Searches in the United States and around the world in 2021. It is a list many SEOs read every year. Top searches show a mix of general news, trial, weather, sports, business and more. These top keywords easily reach millions of searches.
For the majority of news sites, trends are major traffic driver. That's why we decided to put out our list of the 2021 Winners for Google's Top searches in 2021. We analyzed the Google's top 16 most searched keywords in 2021 and identified the most visible publishers and news sites based on their Google Search Top Stories Visibility scores for each of these trends.
Here is the list of the keywords we analyzed:
Afghanistan, Alec Baldwin, AMC Stock, Brian Laundrie, DMX, Dogecoin, Ethereum Price, Gabby Petito, GME, Hurricane Ida, Kyle Rittenhouse, Mega Millions, NBA, Stimulus Check, Tiger Woods, and Travis Scott
But before we start, let's walk you through our methodology of collecting and analyzing the data.
Methodology
The data used in this analysis is a set of 7MM URLs that ranked in Google Mobile Search Top Stories (News Box) for the tracked keywords.
Our tracked Keywords Index consists of Trends and News keywords driven from Google Trends and other trend sources. Our Keyword Index is a dynamic list of keywords that changes all the time based on what is currently trending.
Our Top Stories Visibility is based on our own internal scores which are based on Ranking Positions, Estimated CTR of each ranking position, and how long each URL ranked for a specific keywords "Duration of Ranking". All our rankings are based on Mobile SERPs and collected from continuously changing locations in the US.
Unlike traditional other traditional SEO Ranking tools, we track rankings every 15-30 minutes which is extremely important to provide an accurate view of News visibility. Tracking news keywords once a week or even once a day is not in any way sufficient to provide any meaningful data for news keywords and trends.
The report below doesn't use any random sampling.
Please note that our analysis does not represent Google's actual universe as there are trillion of searches happening every year according to Google. The analysis below mainly represents our own set of collected trends and ranking. And while it is smaller set compared to Google's it reflects the big picture to a great extent.
